The mid-range hotel is beautifully laid out right on the beach at Playa Carmen, the first beach in the Santa Teresa area. At the southern tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, forested coastal mountains sweep down to bright blue Pacific Ocean, creating some of the most spectacular hidden beaches of Costa Rica. Santa Teresa consistently is voted as having the best beaches in Central America for their beauty and being not overly developed. To get there, you either need to take a ferry from the Pacific port of Puntarenas or a domestic flight to Tambor, and then drive 45 minutes to get to Santa Teresa.

The beach at Playa Carmen is stunning; with a captivating mix of shells and volcanic sea glass, small sand-washed smooth pebbles and fine light-beige sand in between rocky reef outcroppings. You simply walk right out from your room, or along paths through the hotel gardens, to the hotel’s lounge area on the sand where you have loungers, hammocks and chairs to relax under the shade of palm and coastal almond trees.

One of Santa Teresa’s main attractions is its waves for surfing, and it is a popular place for surf camps and surfing lessons. Yoga retreats are another favorite activity. You can go for miles on long beach walks, and sunsets are spectator events watching the sun set the ocean ablaze with fiery colors reflecting the vibrant sky.

“This hotel paradise showcases the best of Santa Teresa. The rooms are spacious, immaculate, and attractive. The grounds are beautiful and a delight to walk through. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for anyone, close to perfect waves for surfing, on the perfect beach, seconds from shops and restaurants,” noted a family in their TripAdvisor review, who also visited in November 2016.

Hotel Tropico Latino is set on a large property featuring gorgeous gardens of huge trees, tropical plants and flowers, and meandering pathways. There are several categories of rooms to suit everyone, from posh luxury to relaxed comfort.

“We personally like the Garden Bungalows with their private entrances, private patios, and very spacious interiors. Having our own coffeemaker was perfect for a cup before an early morning beach walk, and for an afternoon pick-me-up. Having the mini-fridge also was handy to keep water bottles and fresh fruit cold,” wrote a guest on TripAdvisor, who stayed at Tropico Latino in October 2016.
