The first-ever Ironman 70.3 triathlon in Costa Rica is set for June 18, 2017 at Playas del Coco, one of Costa Rica’s most popular beaches in the Guanacaste region.

Also known as a Half Ironman, the Ironman 70.3 is one of a series of long distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The number 70.3 refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race that involves a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run, said the WTC. The segment distances are half of those in a full Ironman triathlon. More than 2,000 competitors have already registered for the race.
“With its beautiful natural landscape and indigenous flora and fauna, Costa Rica is the ideal place to host an IRONMAN 70.3 race,” said Ironman organizers.
A lodging option near the race site at Playas del Coco is Hotel Bosque del Mar, an Enchanting Hotel of Costa Rica. The beachfront boutique hotel is located on the neighboring beach of Playa Hermosa in Guanacaste.
